Trinity Super speciality Eye Hospital offers long-term fellowships in ophthalmology which are of 12 months along with 6 months resident duty.
Fellowships training to enable particularly well-qualified persons to receive and contribute to training in specific areas of ophthalmology
Clinical fellowship training combines outpatient, inpatient and surgical experience in an ophthalmic subspecialty. The fellow assumes increasing responsibility for patient care, under the supervision of eminent faculty members responsible for the program.
Research is considered an important aspect of specialty training and a major prerequisite for assimilating future developments in ophthalmology.
Fellows are expected to undertake independent investigation or to participate in one of the ongoing research projects in a basic or clinical field related to their specialty. Time is allotted appropriately for this experience, and its value is enhanced by careful supervision, availability of laboratory facilities, and access to technical assistance.
The long-term programs are for young doctors who would like to benefit from the expertise available in their fields at Trinity Eye Hospital and from access to extensive practical training.
During the course of the fellowship, there is ample opportunity for fellows to handle general ophthalmic cases independently and consult with the faculty of various subspecialties in related ophthalmic diseases. This enables them to draw upon the expertise of various specialists. They also have an opportunity to perform surgeries independently, and follow up on surgical cases.
Currently the Institute offers Long Term 12 month’s fellowship programs in “Comprehensive Ophthalmology Fellowship Programme”
The goal is to target the Ophthalmologists who have recently completed residency through intensive training to impart skills in the recent advances in the diagnosis Understanding research methodology and critical appraisal of published literature as well as carrying out a prospective study are integral to the fellowship.

The Institute offers a 12 month fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology and 6 months duty. The fellowship prepares the graduates of residency training programs for careers in academic comprehensive ophthalmology, emphasizing the latest techniques in cataract surgery and combined cataract-refractive surgery. The learning experience is augmented by participation in Study Group, the Postgraduate Seminar and Grand Rounds; and by interaction with members of the volunteer clinical faculty.
The fellow is expected to undertake several clinical research projects during the course.A microsurgery laboratory is available for surgical experiments. Collaboration with members of the ophthalmic faculty can be arranged for projects of mutual interest. Research findings are submitted for presentation at national meetings and significant findings are submitted for publication.
Clinical experience is gained by working under the program director in the Comprehensive Ophthalmology consultation suite, and Ophthalmology Associates.Surgical experience is gained by assisting faculty preceptors, performing independentand supervised surgery, and supervising residents. Although cataract surgery accounts for the majority of surgery performed by the service, the fellow gains experience inassisting anterior segment surgery, laser refractive surgery, strabismus surgery,glaucoma filtration surgery, oculoplastics and some retinal laser procedures.
Teaching is an integral part of the fellowship experience. The fellow is expected to be an instructor for Ophthalmologist and Technicians, in anterior segment course, the Lens and Cataract Basic Science Course, and other courses offered by the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Division. The fellow presents cases at Grand Rounds and participates as an instructor or lecturer at courses of the Institute.
